Light electric mobility

Many references, little margin per unit.

E-bike, e-scooter and light vehicle batteries are in scope with no capacity threshold. One passport per battery, on a catalogue that changes every season.

In scope

What the Regulation asks of your sector.

Light means of transport batteries need a passport whatever their capacity. The brand that places the battery on the EU market under its name is the operator, including when the pack is bought off the shelf or imported. Replacement batteries sold separately are in scope too.

The passport follows the battery, not the bike, and it is opened by a QR code on the pack.

Where the data sit

Who holds what.

The hard point is working by families of references, not model by model, at every vintage.

Who is already moving

The first passports are published.

  • May 2025
    Decathlon

Is preparing its suppliers for the product passport, with a QR code on its bikes (GS1 France, 15 May 2025). Retailers are getting used to asking for the data behind it.

  • March 2024
    Battery Pass consortium

Technical guidance and a working demonstrator that covers light means of transport batteries, published by Systemiq, BMW, Umicore, Circulor and partners.

  • Now
    The supply side

Bosch already sells a battery passport software built on the Asset Administration Shell. The tooling exists, the data are what is missing.

What changes for you

Three places where the passport counts.

Market access

One passport per reference, for the season

From 18 February 2027 a pack is placed on the EU market with its passport. A covered reference is a range that keeps selling.

Your buyers

Retailers check the documents first

Large retailers and marketplaces check compliance documents before listing. The passport enters their criteria.

Spare batteries too

Replacement packs sold in after-sales are in scope. Your service network carries passports as well as stock.

Working back from 18 February 2027

What has to happen, and when.

One to three months from launch to a published passport, and your cell supplier on the critical path, slowed by the year-end break. Prudent assumptions.

  1. Before 30 November 2026Supplier request sent

Weeks for the answer, before the year-end break and Chinese New Year.

  2. Before 24 December 2026Compliance work launched

References listed, template filled, first checks passed.

  3. Early February 2027Passports published

One QR code per battery, on the product and in the documents.

  4. 18 February 2027The obligation applies

A battery in scope without its passport cannot be placed on the market.

Working back from the deadline with the prudent assumptions of our retroplanning. Fewer references and cooperative suppliers go faster, twelve configurations and silent suppliers go slower.

The platform, for your sector

Create, manage, share.

  1. Families, not modelsOne template per family of references, filled from Excel, one hundred passports at a time.
  2. QR codes ready for labelsOne identifier and one QR code per battery, in PNG and SVG, for your labelling line.
  3. Season after seasonNew references enter the same file. When the guidance changes, the model follows.
