Portable power stations

Your brand, a contract manufacturer’s product.

A power station above 2 kWh is an industrial battery and needs a passport. Below, it does not. Your catalogue straddles the line, and you place the product on the market under your name.

In scope

What the Regulation asks of your sector.

Above 2 kWh, a portable power station placed on the EU market from 18 February 2027 needs its passport. The brand that sells it under its name is the operator, whoever manufactures it. Each reference has to be settled against the threshold, and the decision documented.

One passport per unit, opened by a QR code on the product, with a public page written for the end customer.

Where the data sit

Who holds what.

The hard point is establishing which references are in scope, then getting the contract manufacturer to hand over its documents.

Your contract manufacturer
  • Cell chemistry and origin
  • Carbon footprint
  • Safety data sheet, UN 38.3
  • Test reports
You, the brand
  • References above and below 2 kWh
  • Identity, warranty, manuals
  • Get the manufacturer to answer
Who reads it
  • End customers
  • Retailers and marketplaces
  • Recyclers and authorities

Who is already moving

The first passports are published.

  • Sept. 2026
    Your segment

To our knowledge no power station brand has published a battery passport yet. The first published passports came from cars and buses.

  • 2024
    Volvo Cars

Battery passport on the EX90, built with Circulor, opened by a QR code in the car.

  • Nov. 2024
    Retail

Fnac Darty launched the product passport on appliances in November 2024 and Decathlon is preparing its suppliers. Consumer retailers know the format and will ask for it.

What changes for you

Three places where the passport counts.

Market access

Listing includes the passport

From 18 February 2027 a unit above 2 kWh is placed on the EU market with its passport. Marketplaces ask for the documents before listing.

Your buyers

The QR code is public

The passport is read by consumers, not only inspectors. A complete page is visible to your customers, and to your competitors.

Your sector

The threshold is decided reference by reference

One range can be in scope in one version and not in another. A documented decision holds at the first inspection.

Working back from 18 February 2027

What has to happen, and when.

One to three months from launch to a published passport, and your cell supplier on the critical path, slowed by the year-end break. Prudent assumptions.

  1. Before 30 November 2026Supplier request sent

Weeks for the answer, before the year-end break and Chinese New Year.

  2. Before 24 December 2026Compliance work launched

References listed, template filled, first checks passed.

  3. Early February 2027Passports published

One QR code per battery, on the product and in the documents.

  4. 18 February 2027The obligation applies

A battery in scope without its passport cannot be placed on the market.

Working back from the deadline with the prudent assumptions of our retroplanning. Fewer references and cooperative suppliers go faster, twelve configurations and silent suppliers go slower.

The platform, for your sector

Create, manage, share.

  1. Threshold decision, documentedReference by reference, in or out, with the reason kept on file.
  2. The manufacturer request kitWhat to ask your contract manufacturer, with the letter in English and Chinese and a dated log.
  3. A public page in plain languageThe customer-facing page and the restricted data, served from one passport per unit.
